Fire Prevention

All Council Rangers are authorised as Bushfire Control Officers to administer the Bushfires Act 1954, and as such can exercise all powers and have authority to act as an authorised person as defined in that Act.

In the event of a fire, call emergency services. 

Bushfires

All rubbish and dry vegetation must be cleared by 30 November each year as accordance to the Bushfires Act 1954.

It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure that this is done.  Owners of any blocks of vacant land that are not cleared in accordance with the Act may incur a fine and be liable for the cost of clearing the block which incur a 20% administration fee for the clearing.

Under no circumstance is the burning off of any block permitted.

Fire Hazards

All dwellings have to be clear of dry or overgrown vegetation. The owner of a property has to comply with the order issued within the specified time, or the Town will have the work undertaken at the expense of the property owner.

Burning Off

The Town has prohibited burning off any vacant block, including burning garden waste and any other rubbish. Under no circumstance is the lighting of any ground or incinerator fire permitted.
