Why Collect Seed?
The preservation of the flora of Western of Australia, both for its intrinsic beauty and as a habitat for our equally rich and diverse fauna, is the concern of a growing number of people. Local councils and government instrumentalities such as the Department of Environment and Conservation usually manage bushland reserves and other areas of natural vegetation. Local community groups who volunteer their time to help preserve and regenerate their special area of bush often assist these agencies.
Native seed is a primary resource in the repair and perpetuation of natural ecological systems. Community groups recognise the importance of collecting seed that is of known provenance for revegetation purposes such as propagation for future planting out or for direct seeding programmes.
