Have you ever wondered what happens at a Recycling Facility 🤷‍♀️♻️🤷‍♂️ ?! Join us for a tour of the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council (SMRC) Regional Resource Recovery Centre (RRRC) during National Recycling Week♻️🌏! The tour will begin with a short presentation discussing: ♻️ The lifecycle of waste. 🗑 What waste goes in which bin and common contaminants. 🧨What to do with items that can't go in your household bins. We will then commence a tour of the site. On the tour you will get to see: ♻️ The Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), where recyclables are separated, baled and sold for reuse. 🌱 The Green Waste Facility, where garden waste is turned into mulch. 🍎 The Waste Composting Facility, so you can learn how the general waste bin was turned into compost and what now happens with Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) materials. The tour involves spending approximately 30 minutes walking outdoors 🌞 on bush paths around the site. A reasonable level of physical fitness is required. Kids (older than 6 years old) are welcome on the tour, they must be registered for own ticket and be accompanied by an adult. Closed footwear is essential for all. We strongly recommend you wear long pants, a hat, sunscreen and bring a water bottle. Please note: in spring and summer, snakes begin to emerge to bask in the sun and there may be an increase in sightings around the facility. In the unlikely event of a situation, your tour guide is trained in first aid should an emergency arise. The cost of this event is $5 plus an Eventbrite booking free. The event will begin with a short presentation followed by morning tea and then a tour of the RRRC, with an opportunity to have all your waste and recycling questions answered ♻️💚🙌. ⏰ Time: 10am-12noon Wear: Fully enclosed footwear 👞, long pants 👖, hat and sunscreen. This tour is made available for WMRC member council residents. If you are from a non-member council please purchase the non-member council ticket option as we have limited availability for out-of-area residents.
