At its September Council meeting Cottesloe Council resolved to award the tender for the upgrade of the Anderson Pavilion located at Harvey Field, the home ground of the Cottesloe Magpies Junior Football Club, the Cottesloe Roosters Football Club and the Cottesloe Rugby Union Football Club.

The tender price for design and construction is $1.44m, of which $400k will come from a State Government Community Sporting Recreation Facility Fund (CSRFF) grant, awarded to the Town last financial year.  The initial budget for the project was $1.4 million. The tenders received were very competitive and Council decided to award the tender to Classic Contractor’s proposal, for $1,444,963. This small increase in overall cost allows for four changerooms, to accommodate the increase in female players for all clubs. Council agreed to increase the budget for the project to $1.565m, to accommodate the contract price and provide a small contingency to the project.  The increase will be underwritten by reserve funds, however Council is hopeful for contributions from local sporting clubs, state sporting associations and the State Government.

The new pavilion will be single level and in approximately the same location as the current building. It will provide four changerooms, umpire facilities, separate public toilets, additional storage, enclosed spectator area and kiosk facilities.

The ageing pavilion has been in need of upgrade for decades. It has been ranked by the West Australian Football League (WAFL) as in the lowest category for junior football facilities in the State. Council unanimously approved the issuing of the tender for the upgrade in May this year.   Site possession will occur mid-November’21, with the demolition of the old building later that month.  The majority of the works will occur during the clubs’ off season, with the estimated completion being end of June’22.

With the tender now approved this much anticipated project can now proceed.
