Waste and Recycling Guide
The Town's Waste and Recycling Guide 2022-2023 has been carefully compiled and designed in conjunction with the Western Metropolitan Regional Council. A copy was delivered to homes with your FOGO kitchen caddy at the end of May 2022. For strata properties, not on FOGO, a calendar has been mailed to you.
We are pleased to announce that the Town of Cottesloe has received endorsement from the Department of Water & Environmental Regulation for its Waste Plan 2020 - 2025 prepared under section 40(2) of the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2007.
The Town was commended for its commitment to reducing waste, increasing resource recovery, and protecting the environment by implementing initiatives that are consistent with, and contribute to, the delivery of the targets and objectives of the State’s Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030 by:-
- Providing Food Organics - Green Organics (FOGO) services to single-unit dwellings by 2023;
- Investigating implementing smaller waste and recycling bins with an associated reduction in waste levies;
- Initiating a pre-booked waste verge collection program;
- Undertaking bin tagging;
- Supporting Western Metropolitan Regional Council (WMRC) in diverting residual waste from landfill to waste to energy when possible;
- Implementing public place source separation;
- Developing a waste local law;
- Introducing and enforcing low waste event guidelines;
- Improving litter and illegal dumping data collection; and
- With WMRC, providing programs, initiatives and waste avoidance education to the community.
The Town received particular acknowledgement for its commitment to implement FOGO before 2025 and that once FOGO is implemented, the Town, via the WMRC, only intends to send FOGO residual waste to waste to energy consistent with the Waste Strategy targets.
