Seniors Week 2023

Get ready to celebrate Seniors Week during the week of 13-17 November 2023 as the Towns of Cottesloe, Mosman Park, and the Shire of Peppermint Grove join together to plan a week that promises to be a blast for our cherished senior community members.   Starting with our ever-popular Morning Tea on Monday 13 November 2023, events throughout the week include information sessions, hearing checks, and fitness sessions.   Join us as we come together to honour our seniors, create lasting memories, and make this Seniors Week a truly fun week. Seniors Week Morning Tea 2023

Get ready to savor the sweet symphony of flavors at our Seniors' Morning Tea! Join us for a delightful morning filled with delicious eats that will have your taste buds dancing. Our talented musician will serenade you with melodies that complement the delightful aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the scrumptious pastries that await.

Don't forget to bring your lucky charm, as there's a door prize.

Michael Verde - Dementia without Loneliness

Dementia without Loneliness

This presentation:

1) identifies the common factors contributing to the emotional isolation of people with dementia-related cognitive impairments;

2) introduces person-centered communication that mitigates/ends emotional isolation; and

3) illustrates person-centered communication with riveting video footage.

 

Bio of Michael Verde - Michael Verde is an award-winning writer, speaker, documentary producer and globally recognized thought leader in the field of dementia care.  He founded Memory Bridge in 2003. Currently, Memory Bridge’s programs are hosted on three continents and provide ongoing education to caregivers in 14 countries. To date, Memory Bridge has connected over 9,000 people with and without dementia in one-to-one relationships.  Michael has a M.A. in literary studies from the University of Iowa, a M.A. in theology from the University of Durham in England, where he graduated at the top of his international class, and he is currently completing his Ph.D. at Indiana University, specializing in the area of empathetic communication and literature and religion.

Prime Movers

Prime Movers class in action

Prime Movers Inc. is a well-respected, not-for-profit organization which promotes well-being through exercise for women and men over 50. Prime Movers’ classes teach active, older adults to exercise safely.  

Exercise is of primary importance to quality of life so the classes are structured to include stretching, low impact aerobics, balance and muscle work, all carried out in a friendly environment to popular music.

Through exercise you can:

  • Age positively
  • Slow the ageing process
  • Lower your blood pressure and heart rate
  • Improve fitness, flexibility and mobility
  • Find new confidence and make friends

Seniors week allows for the opportunity for anyone to attend for free.

Free hearing checks are available at The Grove Library in the Flax Room between 10.00am and 4.00pm.

Mosman Park Community Group

The Mosman Park Community Group gets together in the Alf Adams Pavilion regularly and are inviting you to a free open day to have a coffee and chat.

No need to book . You are welcome to head over to the Alf Adams Pavilion on Friday 17 November 2023 from 9.00am to 11.00am.
