About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Part-Time Payroll Officer to work with our Manager Finance to deliver high quality, accurate and timely outcomes. The Payroll Officer will manage the Town’s payroll system (Datapay) and provide support to employees and managers where necessary.
You will play a critical role in performing reconciliations, processing complex calculations, conducting end-of-month and end-of-year processes, assisting with annual audits, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
Key duties under the direction of the Finance Officer may include, but are not limited to;
- Process the fortnightly payroll using Datacom Direct Access and DataPay, ensuring accurate timesheets, leave balances, and other payroll data in compliance with the Industrial Agreement, Local Government Industry Award, National Employment Standards, employment contracts and relevant legislation;
- Verify and input timesheets in preparation for payroll processing. Notify Manager if issue to be resolved (as the signatory on the Timesheet);
- Calculate and apply adjustments such as allowances, leave, overtime, penalty rates, higher duties, and deductions, ensuring correct application of the Town’s policies, Industrial Agreement and relevant legislation;
- Process payroll adjustments as directed;
- Ensure the timely and accurate execution of Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT) for payroll payments;
- Reconcile payroll with the general ledger and resolve discrepancies on a fortnightly basis.
- Maintain private and confidential employee details, including superannuation, allowances, deductions, tax and personal bank details;
- Stay updated with ATO regulations, National Employment Standards and the WA Industrial Relations Act regarding payroll, taxation, and superannuation, to ensure compliance with legislative requirements;
- Act as the primary contact for employee payroll enquiries;
- Maintain and optimise payroll processes to ensure efficiency and accuracy; and
- Other duties as requested by management, that are within the scope of the position.

The ideal candidate will possess the qualifications, experience and personal attributes necessary to perform effectively in this role.
Essential
- Significant experience as a Payroll officer, in a complex environment;
- Demonstrated knowledge of the application and interpretation of legislation, industrial agreements and policy related to payroll;
- Excellent internal customer service; with strong ability to work effectively with stakeholders to ensure compliance and accuracy in delivering the payroll service;
- Excellent attention to detail, numeracy and data entry skills;
- Ability to work autonomously, with limited supervision, within essential authorities;
- Ability to troubleshoot to resolve payroll issues for Managers and Employees; and
- Organised, methodical and able to meet strict deadlines.
Additional Requirements
- Evidence of Australian working rights;
- National Police Clearance (or a willingness to obtain within six months); and
- Successful completion of a pre-employment medical.
