The Town of Cottesloe has secured $10 million in funding from the Australian Government’s Urban Precincts and Partnerships Program (UPPP), marking a major milestone in the long-awaited revitalisation of the iconic Cottesloe Foreshore.

This significant investment, combined with a $5 million contribution from the Town of Cottesloe, will enable delivery of Stage One of the Cottesloe Foreshore Revitalisation Project - transforming the beachfront into a more accessible, vibrant and people-focused destination.

Mayor Melissa Harkins welcomed the announcement, highlighting the importance of the project to both the local community and Western Australia’s tourism economy.

“Cottesloe Beach is one of Perth’s most recognisable and loved destinations, attracting visitors from across Australia and around the world,” Mayor Harkins said.

“This funding allows us to move forward with a project that has strong community support and has been years in the making.

It is shovel-ready and will deliver lasting social, economic and environmental benefits.”

The Cottesloe Foreshore plays a vital role in Perth and Western Australia’s visitor economy, drawing significant tourism and supporting local businesses year-round.

The project is backed by extensive planning, with Council adopting the Foreshore Revitalisation Masterplan in 2018 and approving detailed construction drawings in 2021.

Stage One will focus on creating a more welcoming and accessible public space, with key upgrades including transforming carpark 1 into public open space including terraced seating areas, an event plaza, landscaped community spaces, widening footpaths along Marine Parade, and traffic calming measures to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

The revitalisation will enhance Cottesloe’s reputation as a premier tourism destination, supporting increased activation and economic growth, and the expanded public event space will strengthen the Town’s capacity to host events, while improving connections between the beachfront and nearby cafés and restaurants.

Accessibility and sustainability are at the heart of the project, with features including improved universal beach access for people of all abilities, enhanced walking and cycling infrastructure, safer shared spaces through traffic calming initiatives, tree planting and active transport initiatives.

“Delivery of Stage One represents 50 per cent of the overall project and the Town looks forward to continuing discussions with the State Government to secure outcomes that may deliver the remainder of the project,” Mayor Harkins added.
