The Town of Cottesloe has taken another important step forward to improve parking in high-demand areas, reduce overstaying, and ensure car bays remain accessible for shoppers, diners and visitors.
Council recently endorsed public consultation over a four week period, inviting community feedback on the Town’s Draft Parking Strategy 2026-2029. With consultation now complete on the draft strategy, the Town will review submissions before refining the strategy for further consideration by Council.
Cottesloe Mayor Melissa Harkins said the draft strategy strikes a balanced approach to improve parking access through a clear, four-year roadmap.
“Improving vehicle turnover - through measures such as timed and, potentially, paid parking - has been shown to increase parking availability during peak periods,” Mayor Harkins said.
“We’re confident the Draft Parking Strategy will address longstanding parking challenges within the Town Centre and meet the needs of our community while supporting a thriving local economy.”
“Should Council choose to introduce paid parking, any revenue generated would be reinvested into the community, including infrastructure upgrades and local amenities."
The strategy also proposes the use of smart parking technology, including real-time bay availability and integration with parking apps, making it easier for people to find a space.
Additional initiatives include exploring partnerships to support electric vehicle charging infrastructure, working with the Public Transport Authority to improve commuter parking near local train stations, and encouraging alternative transport options such as e-bikes and e-scooters.
