About the Role:

We are seeking a part-time Building Surveyor, with significant experience, to work approximately 3 days/week.

In this role, you will provide professional advice and guidance to residents, builders and developers while ensuring the Town's building applications, approvals and compliance activities are administered in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and process building applications in accordance with applicable legislation, standards, codes and local laws.
• Issue building permits within legislative timeframes.
• Conduct inspections of construction projects, completed buildings and private swimming pools to ensure compliance.
• Provide timely and professional building advice to the community, Council and internal stakeholders.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives and continuous service enhancement.
• Build positive working relationships with residents, builders, developers, contractors and government agencies.

Essential Criteria:

1. Degree or Associate/Advanced Diploma in Applied Science (Building Surveying) or other recognised qualification relevant to Building Surveying. Current registration as a level two Building Surveyor.
2. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to interpret and apply;
   • The National Construction Code;
   • The Building Act 2011;
   • The Building Regulations 2012 and;
   • Local Government Act 1995.
3. Minimum two years experience as a Building Surveyor, preferably within a Local Government authority.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, together with strong customer service skills.
5. High standards of accuracy and quality-control with a level of attention to detail.
6. Well developed negotiation, decision making and analytical skills.
