The shark barrier at Cottesloe main beach has been installed for the 2026/27 swimming season.
After a brief delay to the scheduled installation, due to weather conditions, the barrier went in on Wednesday 14 October.
It will remain in place until the end of April.
The Town spends $120,000 per year on installing and maintaining the barrier, which provides a large, protected swimming enclosure.
Unlike shark nets, the barrier is not harmful to marine life.
The swimming enclosure is built off the groyne and stretches out 170 metres north from the groyne and 140 metres from the shore.
The Town gratefully acknowledges the support of the State government in purchasing the barrier in 2024 at a cost of $400,000.
