Beach Shade Shelter Prototype (Closed)

The two shade shelters installed at Cottesloe Main Beach are a prototype and part of a modular design that can be expanded upon. When planning for new shelters on the beach, shade was the priority. With that in mind, the Town asked the consultants to come up with a design that could be built with easily sourced and locally available materials, was lightweight in structure, minimal in design, cost effective and resilient. Two parts of the modular unit were installed as a trial to test the functionality of the structure on the beach. Now that the structures have been in place for a number of weeks and beach users have had the opportunity to use them over the summer holidays, we are seeking comments on your experience.

We encourage you to provide your feedback via a short survey

In preparation for this year’s Sculpture by the Sea the shelters will be removed in the week leading up to the event (around 25 February). If you haven’t had the opportunity to experience the shelter and would like to, please do so before this date. Please provide your feedback by 4pm on Friday, 1 March 2019.

Installation of the shade shelters and other works undertaken at the foreshore over recent months are the first in a number of steps to improve Cottesloe’s ageing infrastructure whilst maintaining the character of Cottesloe Beach. These initial works focused on improving universal access to the beach and increasing shaded seating on and off the beach. The works will be reviewed over the coming weeks and, where necessary, refinements will be made.

Looking forward, the Town is currently developing a Foreshore Master Plan with Aspect Studios, who were awarded the tender late last year. Further works on the foreshore will be guided by this Master Plan, which the Town will seek comment on shortly.
