Three western suburb councils have banded together to create a vibrant program of free community events in celebration of WA Seniors Week.

Seniors in Mosman Park, Cottesloe and Peppermint Grove can take part in the events program from November 8 to 20, which includes morning teas, seated ballet classes and a mindful art class.

The two week festival offers opportunities for older people to connect with others, discover new interests and support wellbeing.

“Our seniors are at the heart of our community, and Seniors Week is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and thank them for all they contribute,” Town of Cottesloe Mayor Melissa Harkins said.

The seated ballet class, running for four weeks on Tuesday afternoons in Cottesloe Civic Centre’s Lesser Hall, offers participants the joy and movement of ballet, while in the safety and stability of a chair.

Participants are welcome to come to one class, two, three - or all of them. Classes start on Tuesday 10 November.

The tri-council Seniors Week program spans activities that keep older people active, connected and creative.

“Our older residents have shaped the Mosman Park we all enjoy today, through the businesses they’ve built, the clubs and causes they’ve championed, and the stories they’ve shared along the way. These Seniors celebrations are a chance for us to say thank you,” said Town of Mosman Park Mayor Paul Shaw.

Opening the Seniors Week festivities is the much-loved Mosman Park Men’s Shed Market on November 8 at Tom Perrott Reserve in Mosman Park.

On Tuesday 10 November Westcoast Community Centre is holding a Mindful Art Studio at the Grove Library, from 9am to midday.

Also on 10 November, Mosman Park Prime Movers will combine their usual gentle exercise class with a morning tea at Alf Adams Pavilion.

The Lions Hearing Bus will offer free hearing tests when it pulls up at Mosman Park Bowling Club on Monday 16 November.
