State Development Assessment Unit

Under the Planning and Development Act 2005 (as amended by the Planning and Development Amendment Act 2020), a newly introduced Part 17 grants the Western Australian Planning Commission temporary decision-making powers to determine proposals of State or regional significance, with a project value of over $20 million in metropolitan Perth, and over $5 million in regional areas. 

The newly formed State Development Assessment Unit falls within the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage and forms part of the Department's Land Use Planning Division.

Development application from State Development Assessment Unit – Ocean Beach Hotel redevelopment, Cottesloe

The development application proposes a 12-storey mixed use building including 204 residential apartments, short term (hotel) accommodation with 121 rooms, tavern/bar, restaurants, retail and commercial elements.
